This article aims to question the sources used in historical research related to indigenous people. In this context, and considering that this text is part of a larger study conducted for a master's degree, the sources and methodologies used in the process of writing the dissertation will be presented to understand how stereotypes about indigenous peoples in Brazil are challenged and re-signified in cyberspace (Lévy, 2003), especially by indigenous influencers on TikTok. The methodologies used are Content Analysis (Bardin, 2015) and the Map of Mediations (Martin-Barbero, 2002). By prioritizing sources from the colonial and imperial periods, historians end up reinforcing stereotypical ideas about what it means to be indigenous in Brazil.
