Abstract

This paper discusses the political repertoire of women within the abolitionist movement in Recife, between 1884 and 1888, with the analysis of the Ave Libertas Abolitionist Society. This association was the only abolitionist society to be exclusively founded and composed of women in the city of Recife. This research was developed during the COVID-19 pandemic. For this reason, as sources, I mainly used periodicals, referenced throughout this analysis and available in Hemeroteca Digital da Biblioteca Nacional. The article focuses on the analysis of the formation of the specific repertoire of Ave Libertas, with the aim of highlighting the prominent role of this society and its partners in the Recife abolitionist network.
