The daily life of poor women
poverty and violence in the hinterlands of Cariri, Ceará, in the second half of the 19th century

This work is the result of a broader research project, which seeks to investigate poor free women and poverty in the Cariri Sertão region of Ceará, focusing on the second half of the 19th century. Our intention was to link the aspects of violence suffered or practiced against and by women to issues of private property, as well as analyzing the discourse on the poor and poverty. We will use as a source the court cases made available for research at the Cariri Documentation Center (CEDOCC). The periodicals of the time will also be used as sources. In the periodical O Araripe, we will try to show how discourses and representations about the poor and poverty were constructed in the Sertões region of Cariri, Ceará.
