This paper aims to present some reflections on the work of the historian, more precisely on their role as a cultural producer, and their contribution to the practice of public urban history. The analyses were based on the authors' experience, who had two cultural projects approved in public notices, through Complementary Law No. 195/2022, popularly known as the Paulo Gustavo Law. In these two projects, one focused on women and the other on the history of a street cinema, the city of Natal, capital of the state of Rio Grande do Norte, emerges as a guiding thread in the construction of memories and historical narratives, thus highlighting the possibilities of thinking and producing an urban history in dialogue with society.
