The influence of mayors' academic background on municipal revenue: a case study in Amazonas

The present study aimed to investigate the relationship between the academic background of mayors and municipal revenue in the state of Amazonas, comparing 62 municipalities and analyzing data from through the Brazilian Public Sector Accounting and Tax Information System - SICONFI and the Superior Electoral Court - TSE. The research, of a descriptive and quantitative nature, revealed that mayors with an academic background, especially those with higher education, tend to achieve greater increases in municipal revenues. Among the main findings, it was highlighted that municipalities led by mayors with a degree showed superior financial performance compared to those led by mayors with lower education. The analysis also suggests that academic qualification, although important, is not the only factor influencing revenue, and other aspects such as political experience and local socioeconomic conditions must be considered. It is concluded that the academic background of mayors can play a relevant role in improving public management, being essential for more informed choices by the population in municipal elections.
