With the oral narratives of the teachers interviewed in the research project “Paths of history teaching in Rio Grande do Norte: knowledge and teaching in basic education (1970-2000)” at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte and the clippings of their speeches and memories, we wanted to show how the use of oral and public history contributes to the formation and reflection of the subjects' teacher training. To this end, we dialogued with the authors Aliny Pranto, Alessandro Portelli, António Nóvoa, Juniele Almeida and Ivor Goodson. Our methodology uses oral history as a source, using the dialogues brought up by the teachers interviewed. The narratives revealed how the construction of teacher training is connected to their personal life story, whether they choose it or not, or whether they continue and maintain themselves in teaching
