The Facilities Management (FM) sector in Brazil has experienced significant growth in recent decades, driven by the active participation of professional associations, educational institutions, the market, technical committees, and governmental initiatives, all of which play an essential role in the institutionalization of contemporary professions, including FM. This field is dedicated to managing built environments, aiming to ensure quality, safety, sustainability, and comfort for users. However, despite decades of development, there are questions about whether the sector is adequately formalized in Brazil. This study aimed to assess the participation of these agents from the perspective of professionals in the field through a quantitative survey. The results revealed an ambivalent perception, marked by neutral and critical responses regarding the sector's appreciation, recognition, and formalization. The lack of clear regulation and standardization of activities and roles, along with the limited view still prevailing in society and companies, restricts FM's strategic potential, often reducing it to an operational and support function, with few exceptions.
