This study aims to show a relation between social pathology and social misdevelopment in Honneth's theory of justice as social analysis. It argues a relationship of mutual conditioning between the market system misdevelopment and a mistaken social interpretation of legal freedom, which assigns a structuring role to individual rights in social coordination. Assuming a systematic gap in Honneth's exposition, the text, firstly, recovers fundamental aspects of his normative reconstruction. Then, based on an analysis of the normative foundations of the market economy, it seeks to expose the link between market sphere misdevelopment and a specific pathological form of legal freedom.
