About the Journal

Focus and Scope

Vivência: Revista de Antropologia — affiliated with the Department of Anthropology and the Graduate Program in Social Anthropology at UFRN—presents its online edition here. It is a continuously published journal that aims to disseminate and provide access to articles, reviews, audiovisual projects, memoirs, and keynote lectures relevant to anthropology and related fields. Although publication is continuous, the journal is organized into semiannual issues featuring thematic dossiers. Both the continuous submission stream and the dossiers—which are organized by up to five prominent researchers in the field, with at least one from the UFRN Department of Anthropology—welcome contributions from holders of master’s and doctoral degrees in Portuguese, Spanish, English, and French.

Peer Review Process

Criteria for evaluating the manuscript:

  • Whether the work presents an original reflection;
  • Whether the cited bibliography is adequate;
  • Whether the text is well-written;
  • Whether the text could be condensed;
  • Whether the text requires restructuring;
  • Whether the text fails to meet academic standards;
  • Relevance of the work;
  • Achievement of the proposed objectives;
  • Alignment between the analysis and the data presented;
  • Quality and rigor of the argumentation.

Publication Policy:

Articles will be published based on their submission date. A waiting list will be established, prioritizing the oldest articles submitted via the Journal Portal (SEER) where Vivência: Revista de Antropologia is hosted. This priority applies to the list of articles assigned to an accepted thematic dossier (dossiers must contain between 6 and 8 articles) as well as the rolling submission section.

All submitted articles, including those for thematic dossiers, must undergo peer review by ad hoc reviewers. Each article is evaluated by two reviewers; if an additional opinion is required, a third reviewer evaluates the article. Reviewers are generally given a 30-day deadline to evaluate an article.

Open Access Policy

This journal offers immediate open access to its content, based on the principle that making scientific knowledge freely available to the public fosters a greater global democratization of knowledge.
