A CONSTRUCTIVE SOLUTION FOR LOW-INCOME COMMUNITIES IN THE MUNICIPALITY OF PASSOS-MG

Abstract

The Brazilian construction industry is characterized by the predominance of conventional masonry, associated with high costs, long execution times, and significant waste generation. In this context, the drywall system emerges as an alternative for social housing by reducing costs, construction time, and environmental impacts, in addition to improving thermal and acoustic performance. This study analyzed the economic, technical, and social feasibility of drywall in low-income communities in the municipality of Passos, Minas Gerais, Brazil. The methodology included technical visits, interviews, questionnaires, training workshops, and construction monitoring. Partial results indicate an expansion of the system in the municipality, driven by regional suppliers and its constructive advantages. It is concluded that the consolidation of drywall depends on workforce qualification.
