Abstract

Obtaining human teeth for teaching and research in dentistry involves ethical, legal and biosafety challenges. The UFRN Department of Dentistry's Human Teeth Biobank Extension Project is linked to the first tooth biobank in the state of Rio Grande do Norte. This project strengthens partnerships between the university and the community by enabling teeth to be obtained. The BDH-UFRN team is made up of students, teachers and civil servants, who carry out health education activities aimed at both the academic community and the population. Its role goes beyond collecting and storing teeth, as it contributes directly to building a society that is more informed, critical and committed to promoting and valuing oral health.
