Obesity is a chronic disease characterized by excessive accumulation of body fat. In this context, a healthy diet emerges as one of the ways to prevent the disease. This work describes the experience of an awareness campaign aimed at the public regarding overweight and obesity prevention. The campaign took place at a Basic Health Unit located in Natal, Rio Grande do Norte, during the Nutrition in Community Health Internship offered by the Department of Nutrition (DNUT) at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN). The activity was conducted in the waiting rooms of the health center, where a mini guide on healthy eating was distributed along with guidance on the harms caused by the disease. This initiative highlights the importance of preventive actions in the care of primary care patients of the Brazilian Unified Health System (SUS).
