This experience report is the result of the extension project "Retextualization as a didactic resource in Elementary School I", which aimed to develop reading, comprehension and text production activities in a class of the 5th Year of Elementary School I, from the perspective studies of discursive genres, more specifically, from the perspective of retextualization. It was found that retextualization as a didactic resource enables the development of reading and writing skills. Therefore, it contributed to the performance of these skills in the class in which the extensionist action was developed. It also collaborated with the training of students involved in the Project's activities, providing a critical look at mother tongue teaching and the use of retextualization as a didactic resource in the process of understanding, reading and writing in Elementary School I.
