INNOVATION IN THE PUBLIC SECTOR: The case of the Rio Grande do Norte Military Fire Brigade

O CASO DO CORPO DE BOMBEIROS MILITAR DO RIO GRANDE DO NORTE

Abstract

The objective of this work is to analyze the management of innovation in a Brazilian military public organization, located in the state of Rio Grande do Norte. To this end, we opted to address, in the theoretical field, the context of innovation in public organizations and the management of innovation in the public service. The chosen case study was that of the RN Military Fire Brigade. In relation to methodological procedures, this study presents itself as applied, exploratory, qualitative research, and used action research. After preparing the diagnosis and training the team, implementing new innovative practices, 5 innovative projects were generated to solve the problems and improve the unit's management. Finally, it is emphasized the need for the agency to continue the actions undertaken, as a way to effectively implement an innovative strategic management.
