Abstract

University extension is seen as one of the pillars of the university. The present study aims to describe the importance of university extension to society, the challenges for the implementation and continuity of extension programs and the importance of the extension program “Amigos da Reciclagem” institutionalized at the Federal University of Fronteira Sul, Campus Cerro Largo /RS. The methodology refers to a descriptive research with a qualitative approach. The University aims to meet the aspirations of the population, in this context, university extension, through the development of extension actions such as "Friends of Recycling", achieves the purpose of transmitting the knowledge produced in the academic field, helping to raise awareness and understanding of local and regional social problems.
