RURAL EXTENSION ACTIONS FOR THE PARTICIPATORY DEVELOPMENT OF THE AGROFORESTRY SYSTEM

Abstract

Agroforestry Systems (SAFs) are ways of doing agriculture that help to conserve natural resources and therefore are of great importance for family farming. SAFs are alternatives to the agricultural practice adopted by family and subsistence farmers, which are characterized by the felling of all native vegetation, followed by burning of the remains of organic materials. This way of preparing the area for agricultural practice causes death of wild animals and loss of their habitats, soil degradation, in addition to fire risks. This text aims to present the results of the extension project “Participatory development of agroforestry systems: an alternative for the sustainable production of family farming” over 3 years.
