Politica de acesso aberto

Open Access Policy

RISC adopts a Diamond Open Access model, providing all its content free of charge to readers and without fees for submission, review, editing, or publication (APCs). The journal is publicly funded and guided by principles of democratizing scientific knowledge and strengthening non-commercial academic infrastructures.

All journal content is published under the Creative Commons Attribution–NonCommercial 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC 4.0), which allows reading, downloading, copying, distribution, printing, indexing, and sharing of articles, provided that proper attribution is given and the original publication in the journal is indicated, and provided that the use is non-commercial. Authors retain copyright and grant RISC the right of first publication.

The journal authorizes and encourages the self-archiving of preprints, postprints, and final published versions (VoR) in institutional, thematic, or personal repositories, public preprint platforms, and other scientific dissemination environments in order to increase circulation and research impact. Authors are encouraged to include the following indication in preprints: “Preprint version submitted to the Revista Informação na Sociedade Contemporânea (https://periodicos.ufrn.br/informacao)”.

In alignment with the UNESCO Recommendations on Open Science (2021), RISC promotes openness, reuse, and transparency in research outputs, encouraging authors to make research data, code, methods, instruments, supplementary materials, and underlying content available in open repositories when feasible and ethically appropriate, while respecting confidentiality, privacy, sensitive information, and participant rights. The journal recommends depositing such materials in recognized and interoperable repositories (e.g., Zenodo, OSF, Figshare, Dryad, Harvard Dataverse, or institutional repositories), preferably using persistent identifiers (e.g., DOI, Handle, ARK) and licenses that clarify reuse conditions.

When these materials are made available externally, authors must clearly indicate in the manuscript the repository, the type of material deposited, the persistent identifier, and a direct access link, using the following format:

Research data: [material description] available in [repository], DOI/Handle/URL: [access link].

Example:

Research data: data collection instrument and spreadsheet available in Zenodo, DOI: 10.xxxx/zenodo.xxxxxx.

This guidance aims to support data reuse (FAIR Principles — Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) and enhance research impact, transparency, and reliability.

RISC adheres to the principles and values promoted by AmeliCA, which support non-commercial, cooperative, and sustainable models of scholarly communication, reinforcing the role of universities and public institutions in the editorial ecosystem. The journal also endorses the San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA), recognizing that scientific impact should be evaluated based on quality and relevance rather than solely on citation-based metrics or indexation.

Regarding digital preservation, the journal uses preservation mechanisms provided by the UFRN Journals Portal, including the PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN) and archiving systems compatible with the LOCKSS protocol, ensuring the integrity and long-term availability of published content.

The journal promotes interoperability and persistent identification, through the use of DOI, ORCID, and standardized metadata, facilitating access, traceability, and indexation of scientific production. Non-commercial educational and academic reuse of published content is permitted and encouraged.

RISC reaffirms its commitment to open access, open science, inclusion, ethics, and public interest, understanding scholarly communication as a global public good and a strategic element for social, scientific, and technological development.
