Abstract

This text presents a first-person narrative by Rodrigo Lucas da Silva Avelar, an autistic artist and undergraduate student in Theatre Education at the Federal University of Amapá (UNIFAP). Based on an interview conducted by his undergraduate thesis advisor in June 2025, Rodrigo shares memories, formative experiences, and reflections on autism, artistic creation, and teaching. The transcript was reorganized into a narrative format, preserving his speech style marked by pauses, repetitions, and poetic imagery as a gesture of subjective and aesthetic affirmation. The text addresses themes such as childhood, late diagnosis, institutional support, experiences in theatre education, and future projections. The ethical listening that guides this work is inspired by a range of authors who discuss inclusive and sensitive practices in the fields of art and education, including Paulo Freire, Janaina Leite, Ernesto Martins Fagundes, Valéria Marchi, Kilza Setti, Eliane Potiguara, Ana Mae Barbosa, Ana Beatriz Barbosa Silva, Rosana Nunes, and Maria Inês Teixeira. The full interview, in both video and transcript formats, is available online.
