In this paper, we adopt the assumption defended by Cavalcante et al. (2022), based on Amossy (2008, 2011, 2017), that all texts are argumentative, albeit to varying degrees, meaning that they present a continuum of argumentativity, in which there are different ways to strategically influence others. Among these modes of argumentation, Amossy (2008) posits the pedagogical argumentative modality, which pertains to verbal exchanges in which a speaker positions themselves as the holder of knowledge or as possessing superior knowledge in relation to their interlocutor(s), employing textual strategies to guide their argumentation, one of which is intertextuality. In this context, the main objective of this paper is to analyze the mobilization of intertextual processes in texts shaped by the pedagogical argumentative modality. The theoretical framework of the study is based on contributions from Textual Linguistics (TL), particularly the works of Cavalcante et al. (2020, 2022), studies on intertextuality by Carvalho (2018) and Costa (2024), the Argumentation Theory in Discourse (ATD) proposed by Amossy (2008, 2017), and concepts from Digital Discourse Analysis (DDA) in Paveau (2021). Regarding methodology, this research is classified as qualitative and explanatory, as it aims to explain and describe a phenomenon, using a hypothetico-deductive method, given the gaps in intertextual analysis in the pedagogical modality. As for the corpus, we analyzed two posts made by the Maranhão State Public Defender's Office (@defensoriama) on Instagram, in which legal issues are explained to the general public. The results show that intertextuality is a key argumentative strategy in the @defensoriama posts, which are shaped by a pedagogical mode of argumentation in which the speaker (the holder of superior knowledge) manages these intertextual mechanisms with the aim of (re)orienting the perspective of their interlocutor(s).
